How it works
What
The public donates gently used bikes at various FB4KMN drop-off locations. We organize thousands of volunteers to clean and refurbish them, pair each bike up with a brand-new helmet, and then we give them away to kids throughout the state.
If we receive a bike that can’t be repaired, we salvage any usable parts and then break the remainder of the bike down into the appropriate recycling streams. Each year, we recycle around
two tons of metal and approximately a half ton
of rubber.
When
We operate seasonally, each October, November, and December using donated space, which keeps our overhead low and allows us to maximize the impact our funding has on our bike recipients.
Who
Bike recipients come to us through schools, churches, nonprofits, and other groups. We do not accept individual applications for bikes, but we’re always looking for new organizations to partner with to expand our reach in the community.
Does your organization serve adults who need bikes? Apply! We have plenty of adult-sized bikes each fall, and we love to use them to help adults gain not only physical mobility, but also economic mobility.
